Fellow Wellness Peers and
Advisors, I am so excited at this first opportunity to say
hello! I was
elected by the members of Area 5 that were in attendance at
General Assembly in Atlanta last November. It is my job as a
Student Advisory Committee member to communicate with all of
you what is going on at the regional and national levels of
the BACCHUS Network.
I also get to hear what is going on with all of your
Peer groups!
A little about myself, I am
in my third year at the University of Missouri-Columbia
where I am studying Biochemistry. I would ultimately
like to attend medical school and will begin the application
process as soon as I get my entrance exam scores later this
week. I have been
a ADAPT (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team) Peer Educator
since my freshman year.
I have also served as a freshman orientation leader for
the University, am a member of the Greek community, and teach
swimming lessons at our Recreation Complex.
I am so energized
for this position and the opportunity to serve you all. I can't wait to see
you all at our Area Conference in April!

Annual Area 5 Conference
Every year the Area 5 affiliates come
together to attend and present an amazing Area
Conference. Affiliates attend representing
all 4 of our Area states. The Area 5 Team
is working hard to make this year's conference great and we
can't do that without your attendance! The conference
will be held at the Kansas City Airport Marriott, a
convenient location for the whole area! We
have an amazing list of guest speakers lined up, we also
received over twice as many applications for
breakout sessions so this year will include the best of
the best! You can check out more information about the
conference, guest speakers, and registration at:
Registration closes March 21st!
Scholarship Opportunity!
Also at the conference website is an application for a
scholarship that would fund our conference registration.
Please give your consideration to applying.
Thursday night fun at MoM!

starting with guest speaker Judson Laaiply who you may know
from Youtube's "evolution of dance", following Jud we will be
having a Sock-Hop/Mocktails competition!! So start
finding your costumes and recipes and join the fun!!
Leadership Opportunity!
Looking for a way to get more involved in our Area and
possibly a stepping stone to becoming next year's SAC?

Little Ditty From
your new Student Trustees...
By Tara Daniel, and Chance
Dorland
This upcoming
spring season is one of renewal, and as an affiliate of The
BACCHUS Network, you have opportunities to engage your peer
education organization in this rejuvenation. The BACCHUS
Network exists to provide resources for peer educators to
start and re-energize activities on hundreds of
campuses.
Each spring, The
BACCHUS Network hosts twelve area conferences across the
country with hundreds in attendance. Through networking
with other peer educators and health professionals, presenting
information from your campus experience, and hearing speakers,
affiliates have a chance to celebrate their successes as well
as strengthen their visions.
Meeting with other peer educators is only one opportunity
offered by BACCHUS this spring. Two campus campaigns are now
available, free of charge, to all affiliated campus programs.
The first-ever national Promoting Mental Health Campaign
jumpstarts an entirely new era of wellness promotion, and The
Sexual Responsibility Week materials reflect our continuing
tradition of sexual health promotion. Each campaign contains
not only samples of promotional items for your campaign, but
also a booklet of information and ideas that can be tailored
to individual campus and peer group
situations.
BACCHUS recognizes
that your campus is unique, which is why these resources are
only the beginning. Take these ideas, and in the spirit of
spring, make them grow. In turn, tell us about your peer
education program with your charter renewal. This form is your
opportunity to express what resources your campus uses, would
like to receive, and how you've improved on our
designs.
The Student Advisory
Committee and Student Trustees extend their best wishes for
your success this spring. Indeed, the Student Advisory
Committee is simply another resource for your peer education
progress, so connect with your SAC representative to find out
more regarding what BACCHUS can do for you.
Sincerely,
Tara Daniel and Chance Dorland Student Trustees

Meet your Area 5 Team!
Joan Masters- Area 5 Coordinator:
I wanted to take this opportunity to
remind you about two important events this Spring. First
of all, please consider attending the 2008 Meeting of the
Minds Conference in Kansas City, Missouri. You can find
out more at the conference website. Also, don't forget
to apply for the awards process- this is a terrific chance to
highlight and recognize the tremendous work of your students
and peer education group.
Secondly, you should receive notice
shortly about renewing your charter with The BACCHUS
Network. Please take a moment to fill out the on-line
application or fax in the paper renewal form. If you do
not turn in your renewal form, our Area team will be in touch
to find out if there is any way we can be of assistance.
If you have questions about the purpose of charter renewal,
please let me or your state coordinator know.
I hope to see you in Kansas City in
April!
Joan Masters
