Area 3 Newsletter       March 2006

AREA 3 IS THE PLACE TO BE!

Greetings!

Wow!  This semester is quickly passing us by as we approach the spring weather and our last month of classes for the year!!!  I hope this newsletter finds all of you doing well!  I have been extremely busy this semester with my classes and with softball, so I apologize for not getting this newsletter to you earlier!

I was very excited to see you at our Area 3 Conference in Denver , and if you were not able to make it, then hopefully I will see you in November for The BACCHUS Network General Assembly!  Please take some time to look at the newsletter and update yourselves on upcoming events and fundraising ideas for GA.  Again, if you would like to add something to the newsletter, please feel free to contact me!  Have a wonderful rest of the semester and keep up the good work!

Area 3 Conference in Denver a Success!

"Leading to Leave a Legacy"

Those of you who attended the Area 3 Conference can agree with me when I say it was an absolute blast!  I am very proud to say that we had 150 people in attendance at the conference, representing 14 different campuses!!!  What a great turn out!  We were very fortunate to have such a wonderful line-up of professional speakers this year.  Because our conference was also a national leadership conference, "Leading to Leave a Legacy," we were graced with the presence of several national award- winning speakers, whom some of you might have seen at General Assembly in the past: Judson Laipply, Wendi Fox, and Joe Martin!

In addition to these inspirational sessions, the following campuses from our area presented their own peer education programs: Regis University , Northeastern Community College , University of Colorado-Boulder , and Fort Lewis College .  I highly suggest submitting these programs for GA!  Lastly, congratulations to Marc Goldfarb from Fort Lewis College for receiving the "Outstanding Advisor Award."  Way to go Marc!  Christina Mijares from Colorado State University and Peter VanWyck from Fort Lewis College were both awarded the "Outstanding Student Award."  These awards are available at General Assembly as well!  Let's make Area 3's presence known this November!

FUNdraising Ideas for General Assembly!

"Making our way to GA!"

During the delegate meeting at the Area 3 Conference, I had the opportunity to ask other campuses about what type of fundraising they do to fund their way to GA.  Here are some ideas:

It is best to have a plan for your fundraising efforts. Familiarize yourself with the fundraising rules and regulations on your campus. This will give you a framework from which to start your fundraising efforts.  Develop a "sales pitch" for local businesses when they ask what you are planning on doing with the money you raise.  Be assertive and polite!  Who would deny giving money to a peer education group?  Good luck!
