Colorado High School Initiative

The BACCHUS Network™ , with funding from the Colorado Department of Transportation, developed the Colorado High School Impaired Driving Prevention Initiative to address alcohol use and traffic safety issues among Colorado youth, ages 15 to 18.

The leading cause of death for this age group is motor vehicle accidents, many of which involve alcohol. Currently, there is not an organized statewide effort in Colorado to address this issue . Through the establishment of high school based peer education groups, Colorado high school students educate their peers on the promotion of traffic safety behaviors, prevention of impaired driving, and the consequences of underage drinking to reduce the incidence of injury and death due to motor vehicle accidents in Colorado.

The BACCHUS Network™ has developed resource materials and training opportunities that speak to high school students in a language that is relevant and compelling. We provide high school peer groups with what they need to develop an effective program for their school.
