Student Leadership Opportunities

Student Delegates
Our organization is unique because of the important leadership roles students play. As part of your campus group preparation for the Assembly, it is important for you to designate one person from your organization who will represent your peer education group at the delegate meeting. Each recognized Network affiliate group, through their delegate, will vote on official Network business that will affect our organization for the year to come. This is a wonderful leadership experience.

Student Trustees
Each year, the student delegates elect two students to serve as members of The BACCHUS Network Board of Trustees. These two Student Trustees are elected for a one-year term and have full board voting privileges. It is a great honor to be selected for these positions.

Student Trustees are asked to make several trips (expenses paid) for the Network, to board meetings, and occasionally to other special national meetings and events to represent BACCHUS. Student Trustees also write monthly columns for The Peer Educator™ and supervise the activities of the Student Advisory Committee and projects. Only students willing to make a significant time commitment necessary to such a high profile national position should apply.

If you wish to run for Student Trustee, you must submit a complete nomination package to the National Office by Wednesday, October 25. This nomination must include:

• a letter of intent of no more than three pages
• a letter from your advisor pledging support in the event of your election
• a clear photograph for display at the General Assembly
• a resume including peer education related service

Candidates must also include their campus address, permanent address, phone number, year in school, and course of study. Candidates must be a full-time undergraduate at a campus and a member of a recognized BACCHUS affiliated peer education group at the time of election.

Student Trustee candidates will be allowed a short speech at the delegates meeting during the Assembly.

Student Advisory Committee
Students wishing to take an active role in the leadership of the Network may also run for positions on the Student Advisory Committee (SAC). The SAC works with the Student Trustees to build cohesion among affiliates, to gather information about affiliate activities for The Peer Educator™, and to promote student interests in the actions of the Network. There is an SAC elected to represent each of the twelve regional Areas.

SAC members may be called to Denver during the early months of their terms for an expenses-paid training. You must plan in advance to run and attend the informational meeting on Thursday night of the General Assembly.

Prospective candidates will fill out an application on Thursday night of the General Assembly and be allowed a two-minute speech at the area meeting Friday afternoon prior to election proceedings. Candidates must maintain full-time campus undergraduate status during their term of office from November of 2006-November of 2007 and be a member of a recognized BACCHUS affiliated peer education group at the time of election.

If you wish to run for SAC and cannot attend General Assembly, you must submit a complete nomination package to the National Office by Wednesday, October 25.

If you don’t know your Student Trustees or SAC member, call the National Office at (303) 871-0901, or check our web site at www. bacchusnetwork.org.
