BY-LAWS OF THE BACCHUS NETWORK

ARTICLE II. PURPOSE AND POLICIES

Section 1. It shall be the primary purpose of BACCHUS to promote peer education and young adult leadership on alcohol abuse prevention and other student health and safety issues impacting higher education and communities throughout the United States and Internationally.

Section 2. Recognizing that alcohol abuse is a major problem impacting the health and safety of students and the greater campus community, BACCHUS will largely focus on developing peer education programs which promote responsible decisions regarding the use or non-use of beverage alcohol among college and university students, faculty and staff. BACCHUS shall encourage responsible, legal behavior regarding the consumption, distribution, or use of beverage alcohol within the campus community. BACCHUS shall not condone or support illegal consumption of alcoholic beverages. Additionally, BACCHUS shall work to alleviate problems of alcohol abuse and other student health and safety issues on campus through education about alcohol use and abuse; the facilitation of alcohol-related research; by increasing awareness of healthy alternatives to alcohol abuse; and, through supporting education on other student health and safety issues.

Section 3. Recognizing that alcohol abuse is related to a number of other health and safety issues, the organization may devote time and resources to young adult education on campuses and in communities on issues including tobacco, sexual health, violence prevention, illegal drug use, fitness, nutrition or other issues as they are identified as fitting within the broader mission of the organization.

Section 4. To accomplish this purpose, BACCHUS shall encourage the organization and recognition of chartered BACCHUS affiliates on College and University campuses. BACCHUS will provide training and support opportunities for affiliates via the General Assembly, Spring Workshops and through various other projects and programs.

Section 5. BACCHUS and BACCHUS Affiliates shall be non-profit, non-sectarian, and non-partisan. BACCHUS and BACCHUS affiliates shall not discriminate against any person on the basis of race, color, religious, age, sex, nationality, sexual orientation or physical impairment (where reasonable accommodation can be made).

Section 6. BACCHUS affiliates must operate in accordance with all campus policies and local and state laws. Failure to do so will cause revocation of recognition (Charter) by the national office.

Section 7. The name “BACCHUS” or the BACCHUS logo shall not be used for the promotion of any commercial concern or venture, any particular product, or any partisan interest. The name “BACCHUS” and the BACCHUS logo shall be used to promote the purpose and policies of BACCHUS.
